Change of Fashion?

Poem by Carmel Hodgins, Fraser Coast Pet Warriors?
We just can’t keep him I heard them say
As they surrendered him to us that day
We’re moving house and can’t have pets
So into our care this little dog went
We saved his life they continually said
As a refuge had him marked for dead
He’s good with kids was what they said
He’s never bitten our two and four year olds yet
Now when the paperwork was complete
And the little dog was now totally distressed
A slip of the tongue from the surrendering gent
“A miniature Chihuahua is what my wife will now get”
Is it training day yet?
Is it training day yet?

Training:  All dogs attending these sessions must be vaccinated. Current vaccination certificate must be viewed.

When and where:  Maryborough Animal Refuge, Bright Street, Maryborough:-  9am Saturdays.  Cost for training your own dog – $10 donation to the Refuge. (See below for more information)

The Maryborough and District Animal Refuge is holding training sessions at 9am each Saturday morning.  Volunteers are welcome to assist with training the Refuge dogs and thereby learning about animal behaviour and modification.  Volunteering is naturally free of charge. We would like to take this opportunity of recognising Darren Phillips and his wonderful children – Jayden, Felicia and Tahlia who have volunteered their time so much in the past and therefore assured the future well being of many adopted animals.  We are so very grateful.

CASTRATE AND VACCINATE

A poem by Jennifer Walsh

Manager,  Mareeba Animal Refuge

Your dog or cat should be your friend

A mate for life, right till his end

A word from me, just make the date

To spey, castrate and vaccinate

‘Cause if you don’t, there’s no worse thing

Than facing me with its offspring

If she’s a girl then, you must spey

And if you don’t hear what I say

Pups and kittens are what you’ve got

And Holy Crap! There are a lot!

If he’s a boy off with his nuts!

And, please, old man, I’ll hear no buts

They’re not your own, and don’t despair

He’ll be a better friend, I swear.

Now, if you come to me and say

An accident occurred this day

Our next door neighbour jumped the fence

Enticed by our poor bitch’s scents

I’ll only say there are no slips

When every dog has had its snips!

You will incur more wrath in me

When you think I’ll be so full of glee

To receive a litter that’s had not yet

Its worming and needles from the vet

So I beg you not to leave too late

To spey, castrate and vaccinate!

SIPPY CREEK

Another vehicle load of dogs were taken to Sippy Creek (Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge) today, the 20th November 2009.  Carmel drove, four restrained in the cabin with her, and three boys in the back.  Seven all told, with one returning to Maryborough after a phone call from someone wanting to adopt Clever Trevor, the Pound dog of the week.  Thanks again to Rosie, Kym and the staff of  Sippy Creek for all your help, committment and passion.  Also thanks to Alan for his assistance.

Dogs for Sippy 2_1Six dogs from both Maryborough and Hervey Bay Pounds were assessed for their dog friendliness and then forwarded to Sippy Creek on the 28/11/09.  We again thank Kym and Rosie from the bottom of our hearts for assisting with the re-homing of our dogs.  Sippy Creek has their own veterinary clinic and the dogs are wormed, vaccinated and de-sexed and after any additional vet  treatment and dog training by their trainer, listed for sale.  If anyone in this area cannot find the dog of their choice with Fraser Coast Pet Warriors, Maryborough Animal Refuge or Fraser Coast Dog Rescue (small dog rescue) then it is well worth a trip to Sippy Creek (Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge).  Brock 4_1
